The Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol is an international treaty adopted under the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to the Convention on Biological Diversity. It entered into force on 5 March 2018. The Supplementary Protocol aims at contributing to the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity by providing international rules and procedures in the field of liability and redress relating to living modified organisms.

This module introduces the user to the Supplementary Protocol and basic concepts regarding liability and redress. It provides an overview of the obligations arising from the Supplementary Protocol, and of its voluntary provisions. Supported by examples of national legislation, the module provides practical guidance on implementing the Supplementary Protocol at the national level.
